Over the course of 12 build days, over 300 women+ volunteers will work alongside future homeowners Jessica, and Marina & Arnulfo to build their two homes for the 22nd annual Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County Women+ Build.
Volunteers will fundraise a total of $210,000 to sponsor the materials needed to build the home, while volunteering approximately 3000 hours of time to physically build the houses. Since its beginning, Women+ Build has raised over $2.5 million dollars and helped house 77 people including 41 children.
Registration is now open for volunteers interested in participating (teams are filling up fast!). Sign up today on our site, mcwomenbuild.org!
Since our first build in 2000, Women Build in Monroe County has been breaking biases to empower women in creating a more gender-equal world (starting with our construction sites) that is diverse, equitable and inclusive. This year, we aim to further expand our commitment to inclusivity by adding the “+” to our name and ensuring all underrepresented individuals feel truly welcome to participate. This added “+” is our invitation for all underrepresented identities to build with us (now and year-round!), including trans women, trans men, and those who are non-binary, gender nonconforming, and who may identify in other ways.
For a limited time, show your Women+ Build spirit with a purchase from our Spirit Store! All proceeds will benefit this year’s build. Order before August 17 to lock-in presale pricing, and guaranteed pickup on your build day. All orders after that date will be delivered in early October.
If you can’t join us during the build, but still want to help raise the funds to support safe and affordable housing for these families, consider becoming a Women+ Build Spirit Builder – you’ll earn the official builder tee, and join the army of awesome women+ builders working toward safe and affordable housing in our community. Or, consider financially supporting another woman+ builder!
