8th Annual Whirlpool/IU Kelley Blitz Build: Oct. 3 – 14

Our Whirlpool Blitz Build begins next week on the beautiful Indiana University campus!  We will be building at a new location:  at the intersection of 17th Street and Fee Lane.  Parking is available in the Green Lot at Gate 12.

Irving Castañeda Baltazar has helped to build homes for his mother and other family members over the years; he has already volunteered more than 230 hours helping to build other Habitat houses and attending homeowner readiness courses. It’s only fitting that volunteers will come together to help a person who has given so much to others reach his dream of homeownership in just 10 short days. Read more about Irving’s journey HERE.

Whirlpool Corporation and Habitat for Humanity have partnered together to improve lives one home, one family at a time since 1999. 8000+ Whirlpool employees volunteer with Habitat annually. Whirlpool donates a range and an ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerator to each Habitat home in the United States. The value of Whirlpool Corporation’s current commitment is $101 million. More than 100,000 families have been directly impacted around the world by Whirlpool’s partnership with Habitat.

Provost and executive vice president Lauren Robel summed up the excitement well: “When our campus and community come together for projects like this, everyone benefits, and all participants gain a better understanding and appreciation for one another’s unique attributes and challenges.”

All IU community members are invited to participate. Contact the Kelley Institute for Social Impact program at: 812-856-7852 or KISI@indiana.edu to register!

As always, we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has worked so hard to make this build possible!

7th Annual Whirlpool/IU Kelley Blitz Build a Success

220916_kellywhirlpoolbuild-664-7The home of future homeowners Jeff and Carla Wyatt was dedicated on October 1, 2016 at the Virgil T. DeVault Alumni Center, just across the street from IU’s Memorial Stadium.

We can’t believe how quickly the blitz build (sponsored by Whirlpool Corporation in partnership with the Kelley Institute for Social Impact and Indiana University) flew by!  All told 400 volunteers from Indiana University, the Bloomington community and Whirlpool Corporation pitched in to help construct Carla and Jeff’s home.  Jeff might have said it best:  “The last 10 days have been like a party – but one where your house looks better at the end.”

As always, we are incredibly grateful to everyone who worked so hard to make this build possible!
