What is the Attainable Homeownership Tax Credit?

The Attainable Homeownership Tax Credit was created by the Indiana General Assembly to encourage charitable giving that supports affordable homeownership throughout the state. The program provides tax credits to eligible donors who make qualifying contributions to Habitat for Humanity of Indiana and designate a local affiliate, such as Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County, to receive the funds.

How the Tax Credit Works

When you make a qualifying donation through the AHTC program, you may receive a tax credit equal to 50% of your gift on your Indiana state tax return.

  • Step 2: Prepare Your Donation: Make your check payable to Habitat for Humanity of Indiana. Be sure to indicate Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County on your form and in the memo line so your gift benefits our local affiliate.
  • Step 3: Submit Your Form and Donation: Mail your completed form and donation to:

IRA Charitable Rollover

If you are age 70 1/2 or older, you may be eligible to make a tax-wise gift directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County.

An IRA Charitable Rollover, also known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), may allow you to satisfy part or all of your annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) while excluding the donated amount from your taxable income. Because retirement account rules and RMD requirements have changed in recent years, we encourage you to consult your financial advisor or tax professional regarding your eligibility.

Donor-Advised Funds
