We hope you and your loved ones are safe and well after last night’s tornadoes.
We wanted to share an update with you directly on how Habitat was impacted. Thankfully, our staff, neighborhoods, ReStore, and office building spared major damage. Unfortunately, the two warehouses that we lease on the south side of town didn’t fare as well. These were filled with ReStore overstock items, building materials, and tools, and where we house our trucks.
We were contacted by Mayor Thomson just before 9pm with the news and photos, and our team confirmed the significant damage. We are so fortunate that no one was there at the time. Insurance claims are in progress, and we’re assessing next steps.
While we lost materials, we know others in the area are dealing with far greater losses. As a housing provider, our focus is on those whose homes were damaged by the storms. Our hearts are with our neighbors to the north of the warehouses, a row of duplexes who sustained severe damage. We are in the process of determining the most critical needs, and how Habitat can assist our fellow neighbors.
Please use extra care as you travel about Monroe County this weekend, and allow space for our first responders and neighbors to asses and respond to the aftermath of the storms. We will be in touch soon with more information on recovery efforts and how to get involved.
