Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County Selected as Bloomingfoods’ Positive Change Recipient for January 2024

Start the year on a positive note by supporting two community favorites! Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County (HFHMC) is delighted to announce its selection as Bloomingfoods’ Positive Change recipient for January 2024. Throughout the month, shoppers can make a difference by rounding up their purchases to the nearest dollar or contributing more, with all proceeds supporting Habitat’s mission.

Since 2016, Bloomingfoods’ Positive Change register roundup program has empowered shoppers to make a significant impact through small change.

All families in the Habitat program qualify based on their need for housing, the ability to pay back an affordable mortgage, and a commitment to partner with the organization by volunteering at least 250 hours of “sweat equity.” This involves participating in homeowner readiness classes, volunteering at the Habitat ReStore, and contributing to the construction of their neighbors’ homes, as well as their own. Since 1988, Habitat has constructed 231 homes, providing housing for nearly 845 individuals, including 475 children.

Habitat’s mission goes beyond building houses; it focuses on the development and empowerment of people and communities. Our organization seeks partnerships among individuals from all walks of life, emphasizing the creation of equity, stability, community, and legacy. Our programs aim to instill a sense of empowerment, encouraging residents to take charge in their neighborhoods and create safe, vibrant communities for generations to come.
