Community Round Up Campaign benefits Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County’s affordable homeownership program.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (August 4, 2026)  Thousands of small donations at the checkout counter have combined to make a meaningful investment in affordable housing, with shoppers at Bloomingfoods Co-op Market raising more than $9,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County. In 2016, Bloomingfoods Co-op Market launched its Positive Change program, a community register-roundup initiative that raises funds for local nonprofits serving Bloomington and Monroe County.

During July 2026, Bloomingfoods shoppers rounded up their purchases to the nearest dollar or donated more at checkout while buying groceries, household essentials, and other items. Their collective generosity raised more than $9,000 to support Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County’s affordable homeownership program.

The campaign comes as housing affordability remains a growing challenge in Monroe County, one of the least affordable places to live in Indiana. In 2025, one in five households spent more than half of their income on housing, placing many families under significant financial strain. For lower-income households, housing costs often consume well above the 30% threshold considered affordable.

Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County is working to address that need by partnering with local families to create affordable homeownership opportunities. Since 1988, the organization has built more than 250 homes for families and individuals throughout Bloomington and Monroe County, helping expand access to safe, stable, and affordable housing.
