John Figg, a U.S. Army veteran, will receive a new roof on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, from RCV Roofing, Siding & Gutters, an Owens Corning Platinum Roofing Contractor, as part of the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project.
Through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County, John Figg was selected and approved as the recipient for the roof replacement.
The Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project is a nationwide effort to show gratitude and honor the veterans who served our country and the families who support them. Since the inception of this program in 2016, more than 275 military members have received new roofs.
Meet John Figg
John Figg served in the United States Army from 1966-1967 after being drafted right out of high school. A life-long Monroe County resident, he returned to the area following the end of his service. He settled down in Ellettsville, building his home on his grandmother’s farmland.
Construction work isn’t new for John, as he spent many years working with his father and father-in-law on residential and commercial projects. He also worked for a GE plant, and did maintenance services with People’s State Bank for 11 years before joining his wife, Lois, in retirement. Their close-knit family – including ten grandchildren – live in the area and have “watched him like a hawk” since he developed health issues in recent years.
“Normally, I’d be happy to do this work myself. But with my health the way it is now, this program is a real blessing for us. Things haven’t all gone the way I’d planned, and it would’ve really tightened things up for us without your help,” John explained.
John and Lois were introduced to the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project through John’s daughter, who had connected with an associate of RCV Roofing, Siding & Gutters at her son’s local rodeo event. The couple applied to the program, knowing their nearly 25-year-old roof was close to the end of its life.
“We just appreciate everything all of you folks are doing. It is helping us a bunch.”
About RCV Roofing, Siding & Gutters
RCV Roofing, Siding & Gutters, or RCV, strives to bring professionalism and customer service to the local roofing industry. RCV was founded in February 2013 when the owner, Jay Nelson, a U.S. Army Veteran saw there was a deep lack of customer service and professionalism in the local roofing market. There was little to no care given to the client or the employees, contractors were not responsive, and workmanship issues were not addressed. He started RCV Roofing, Siding & Gutters and vowed to live up to these values. The company experienced immediate success and growth. Within 3 years, RCV was the largest residential roofing company in Bloomington. For more information, please visit www.rcvroofing.com.
